The game

The biggest soapbox race in the neighbourhood

Five kids are racing their carrinhos de rolimã (home-made ball-bearing carts) down the steepest street in town. You're not driving. You're in the crowd, and you've got a pocket full of bubble gum to bet.

Play cheer cards to push carts down the hill, or hold them as bets for the final podium. The cart you secretly back might not be the one you're cheering for, and everyone at the table knows it.

  • Every card is a choice: move a cart now, or keep it as a bet.
  • Four of the six hill cards twist the rules as the leader rolls downhill, so no two races feel the same.
  • Plays 2 to 6 in about 20 minutes, with a dedicated two-player mode.
  • Nearly language-independent: only the hill cards carry text.
How it plays

Cheer. Draft. Twist. Repeat.

Each round has three quick phases. The race ends the moment any cart crosses the finish line. Then the cards left in your hand become your bets.

1

Cheer

Everyone plays one card face up. Same-colour numbers add together, no matter who played them. The loudest crowd pushes its cart one section down the hill.

2

Draft

Whoever played the lowest card picks first from the open market. Playing small now means choosing first, and the last to pick takes the horn and leads the next round.

3

Twist

When the leading cart reaches a new section, that section's hill card flips face up and a new rule takes over the race. Only one hill rule is active at a time.

The finish line

Your hand is your bet

When a cart reaches the finish, the race stops instantly. The three cards left in your hand are your bets: multiply the bubble gum on each card by its cart's final place.

Most gum wins. Cheer too hard and you've got nothing left to bet on. Hold back and your cart might never leave the start.

The art

Street culture you can hold in your hand

Ball-bearing cart races are a childhood ritual across Brazil, and anyone who grew up with Seifenkisten, soapbox derbies or caisses à savon recognises the feeling instantly.

Illustrated by Denilson Silva, every racer has a personality, a colour and a cart built from whatever was lying around the house.

The art can travel, too. We're open to adapting the illustrations to fit your market.
